11 As for Megan and Vita
Congratulations to all our Transition Year students on their wonderful
Junior Certificate results. The majority of students exceeded expectations and
reaped the rewards of all their hard work over the last three years.
Special mention to two students, Megan and Vita, who received
11 As each – what a fantastic achievement.
Congratulations also to the many other students who achieved
multiple As across all subject areas. The top five students achieved no less
than 50 As!
A sincere thank you to all their teachers who have prepared
them so well for this exam and who continue to encourage them to reach their
full potential as they proceed into Senior Cycle. We are very proud of the Junior
Cert Class of 2016 and wish them continued success in their future academic
pursuits.

50th
Anniversary Hockey Tour September 2016.
On Friday September 9th
Villiers School hosted a visiting girl’s hockey team from St. Brendan’s
College, Buenos Aires, Argentina. They were visiting Limerick as part of their
school’s 50th anniversary tour and also to honour the founder of
their school, Mr. John Joseph Scanlan, a native of Limerick city.
Villiers Senior Girls’ Hockey Team
played an international challenge match against St. Brendan’s on Saturday
September 10th at 1pm in what was a very exciting game. Afterwards both teams enjoyed
refreshments on the lawn of Derravoher House and coaches and players had a
chance to swop cross-cultural hockey notes!
We are delighted to develop links
with an Argentinian school with similarities to our own school. Sincere thank
you to all the parents who hosted the girls in their homes over the weekend.

Laura's 7 A1s in the Leaving Cert
Villiers is celebrating double success with two students with a clean slate of As in Leaving Cert 2016. Laura Cooke has an impressive 7 A1s to her credit, while Isabel
Schulte-Austum has a superb 4 A1s and 3 A2s.
Both girls are highly
successful in all aspects of their lives and have exciting plans for the future.
Laura is studying Medicine in NUIG, where she joins her brother, also a past pupil of
Villiers, and already studying Medicine in the university. Laura was Head Girl
in Villiers and combined a busy study schedule with an equally busy sporting
schedule, playing on School hockey teams, and managing a very successful
cycling career.
Isabel has also moved beyond the Leaving Certificate having taken her place in the highly prestigious Sciences Po University Paris, whose alumni include 15 of the most recent French Prime Ministers and Presidents, including Francois Hollande, Jacques Chirac and Francois Mitterand. Isabel is a young lady we will certainly see on the international stage in the very near future.
Headmistress Ms Storey was delighted with the results and paid tribute to all of the students and their teachers. “Attainment is personal,” she said, “and we are pleased to see such a well-rounded group of young people looking forward to their university and college offers with such confidence. We know they will take their next steps with self-assurance and poise although we will miss them.”
