Kemmy Business School/BSTAI Awards

Well done to Emma Spillane, Emma Gordon, Aoife McNulty and Sam Davern who were presented with awards at the recent Junior Certificate Business Studies Awards Ceremony at the University of Limerick.
The awards are presented by the Kemmy Business School and the Business Studies Teachers Association in recognition of outstanding results in Business Studies in the Junior Certificate Exam 2015. 

World Book Day March 3rd

World Book Day was celebrated in Villiers School with a series of literary events promoting the enjoyment of books and reading. First up was the literacy initiative 'Drop and Read' when all students and staff in the school stopped what they were doing, picked up a book and read for twenty minutes. During lunch time there was a 'Bring and Buy' book sale and in the afternoon the English Department organised a Literature Quiz for Form 1 students. All involved were encouraged to dress up as well know book characters with the prize for best dressed going to quiz master Mr. White! 

Changing Faces of Ireland Photography Exhibition

Thursday 25th February saw the opening of the Changing Faces of Ireland photography exhibition in Mary Immaculate College as part of the College’s programme of events to commemorate 1916.

Villiers School is delighted to be involved in this exhibition which portrays the vibrancy of school life throughout the decades with photos providing a snapshot in time from the 1930’s all the way to 2016.

 “School photographs are a wonderful way to reflect on the changes which occur in society overall. The faces of children along with the activities, clothing and surroundings in each of the photographs in this exhibition tells the story of how Limerick has evolved over time and gives an insight into Limerick of today” according to one of  the event organisers, Brighid Golden, DICE Coordinator, MIC.

Opening the exhibition Prof. Michael Healy, Associate Vice President of Research, MIC; thanked the participating schools for their commitment and enthusiasm to the project. “We believe that the snapshots provided in the photographs speak to the vibrant history of schools in Limerick; indeed we are delighted to have two of the oldest schools in Limerick included in the exhibition. Presentation Primary was founded in 1837 and Villiers School was founded in 1821. Photographs from these two schools take us on a journey through time as we can explore photographs from the 1930’s all the way to 2016."

21st Annual First Year Mile

Congratulations to all involved in organising the 21st Annual First Year Mile. Over one hundred first year students took part in what has become an eagerly awaited athletic event in the school calendar. The mile route was mapped out from early in the morning, the sun shone and a large number of students and staff were on hand to encourage all those participating in the run. First past the post in the girls competition was Olwyn followed closely by Andrea and Emer in joint second place.
Lee took the honours in the boys race with Seth and David in second and third place.

During the presentations in the Sports Hall, Mr. Sutton congratulated all who took part in the run and pointed out that this years' winners joined a list of  illustrious past winners which includes former Olympians and Irish Athletic record holders.

Last years' winners, Harry and Lizzy, presented the winners trophies to Lee and Olwyn. Congratulations to all involved in this event.

Junk Kouture 2016

We are in the Regional Finals (South) of Junk Kouture 2016

with the magnificent creation 'frock de fleurs'.

Congratulations to students Lauren Ryan, Rebecca O'Flynn, Tain Amodeo and to teacher Ms. Thornton. 

Junk Kouture is a national contest which encourages young designers to create striking couture designs from everyday junk that would normally find its way into the bin.

Voting is now open and closes midnight Friday 26th February 2016.
