The Technology Team at Villiers School have started to produce
protective face-shields for local healthcare workers using the school’s laser
cutter and supported by funding from the Parent Teacher Association.
Using an approved template, Technology teachers Mr. Jones and Mr.
Browne, began production last Friday and the first batch of visors were
distributed to local nursing homes later that evening. The pair documented
their progress via Twitter and since then, have been inundated with requests
for the PPE product.
The school’s Technology laboratory has been converted to a temporary production
assembly line and materials have been delivered from Miko metals in Cork as
well as being sourced from local suppliers. The team print the shape of visors
using the laser printer and then cut, assemble and clean the product before
making it ready for distribution.
