U16 Boys Rugby team win Giles Shield

Congratulations to our U16 Boys' rugby team who won the Munster Giles Shield in a superb final against Scoil Mhuire gan Smál in Bruff RC.

Villiers were first to put scores on the board with two excellent tries - James Deegan and Scott Harvey crossed the line and conversions followed from the inform kicker Aodhan Keane. Villiers were in front by 12 at the end of the first half.

Scoil Mhuire gan Smál mounted a spirited challenge in the second half and scored two tries in quick succession to tie the game at 12 -12 with 10 minutes remaining.

Villiers continued to push forward and were awarded a penalty with 3 minutes to go. Aodhan Keane stepped up to strike the ball confidently over the bar to give Villiers the lead. Scoil Mhuire gan Smál pressed hard in the final few minutes but an excellent Villiers defence ensured no further scores.

A final score line of 15 -12 saw team captain Jack Hennessy accept the Giles Shield from competition organiser Mr. Tim Fennell.
A delighted Jack presented the Shield to Ms. Storey during Assembly and thanked their coach Mr. Sadleir and all team members who had put in many hours of training throughout the season.
